Julia Novrita, Ph.D.
Director of Programs and Development
Julia Novrita earned her doctoral degree in Education, Policy, Research, and Administration (EPRA) with a specialization in International Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. Her dissertation explored the challenges and opportunities of higher education in conflict-affected regions to promote reconciliation and peace. She holds a master’s degree in Intercultural Service, Leadership, and Management from the School for International Training, Vermont, USA, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universitas Syiah Kuala, Aceh. Since October 2021, she has served as Director of Programs and Development at The Habibie Center.
Julia has over 15 years of experience in education, peacebuilding, and community development. Her expertise includes facilitating intergroup dialogue, conflict transformation, project management, and monitoring and evaluation. Prior to joining The Habibie Center, she worked as a research assistant for the USAID Education in Conflict and Crisis Network (ECCN) project managed by the University of Massachusetts. She also served as a consultant for the NUFFIC-Netherlands project to strengthen higher education capacity in eastern Indonesia and for the British Council on primary and secondary education development in West Papua. Additionally, she worked as a translator for the Henry Dunant Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HDC), engaging with representatives from the Government of Indonesia, the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), and senior multinational envoys, and has experience in delivering humanitarian aid to conflict-affected communities in Aceh, particularly women and children.
Julia is particularly committed to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She advocates for educational access for social justice, non-violent movements, religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion.
